Building Bridges of Understanding: A Conversation with Larkin O'Leary of Common Ground Society

In this episode, I have the privilege of sitting down with Larkin O'Leary, co-founder of the Common Ground Society, to explore the essential mission of promoting inclusivity and educating our Sonoma County community about disabilities. Larkin takes us on a journey back to the roots of Common Ground Society, tracing its inception from a poignant presentation on World Down Syndrome Day in a local preschool. This initial spark ignited a fervent desire to expand awareness beyond one diagnosis, leading Larkin and her partner, Jessica, to embark on a mission to educate students and educators alike.

Through their presentations in schools across Sonoma County, Larkin and Jessica became known as "Just Two Moms," imparting invaluable lessons of empathy, acceptance, and understanding to young minds. As news of their efforts spread through the local press, the demand for their presentations grew, prompting the expansion of their focus to encompass a multitude of diagnoses. This evolution marked the birth of Common Ground Society, a beacon of support and connection for families navigating the journey of disability.

Join us as we delve deeper into the initiatives and partnerships driving positive change in Sonoma County. Discover how Common Ground Society is not only bridging gaps in understanding but also building bridges of connection within our community. Together, let's learn how we can all play a role in creating a more compassionate and inclusive society for individuals of all abilities in Sonoma County and beyond.
